Shiitake Cultivation Planning

Maximizing Your "Mycelial Mileage", published at Fungi.com, has some interesting thoughts on mushroom cultivation.

My cultivation will be outdoors on oak logs.  Figuring out the best technique and location are in the cards.  One item in this article that jumps out is the recommendation to cut logs one to three months before innoculation.  Trees emit a natural anti-fungal substance soon after cutting.  This means I need to trim up my white oak so the branches can begin to calm down in preparation for innoculation later this year, in the spring.

The video below, issued by the UK Forestry Department, has a fair amount of technical information about shiitake cultivation.
